Artemis Curepipe Hospital has invested in a state-of-the-art large-bore MRI. Its wider bore helps patients overcome claustrophobic difficulties and accommodates large patients (up to 250 kg). The MRI is loaded with the latest software packages including superior 3D image reconstruction for holistic and comprehensive test reporting. The hospital’s MRI can perform all soft tissue examinations, is equally robust in orthopaedic cases and safe for pregnant ladies from the second trimester.
The MRI can scan anything that is neurological and any spinal issues with very superior details. Thus, in case of injury, it can detect any soft tissue changes that cannot be seen on an X-ray or a CT scan. It provides accurate results as it works with signal changes in the body.
Fully digitalised system
Besides the MRI, Artemis Curepipe Hospital Radiology Department offers a comprehensive range of medical imaging services comprising of X-rays, CT scans, ultrasound, mammography and bone densitometry, each tailored to specific diagnostic and therapeutic needs. Artemis Curepipe Hospital’s fully digitalized Radiology Department is equipped with digitally enhanced technology that generates superior image quality. All images are digitally stored in a database through a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
“Our advanced technology ensures faster scan times that reduce patient discomfort. Our MRI equipment has a high slew rate, resulting in superior image quality. Various specialized imaging packages cater to distinct medical specialties, optimizing image acquisition. Qualified radiographers operate all equipment, employing their anatomical and physiological knowledge to minimize radiation exposure. Our fully digitalized radiology department, manned by qualified radiographers and an experienced radiologist, ensuring 24/7 availability, sets us apart,” says Arunprasath, Group Head of Clinical Engineering for Falcon Healthcare Group.
Detailed foetal imaging
To oversee the installation of the MRI equipment and its implementation, Artemis Curepipe Hospital has solicited the services of Anelia Vorster from Philips, South Africa. With over 16 years of expertise as an MRI Radiographer and an MRI Clinical Application Specialist, she seamlessly integrated and steered Artemis Curepipe Hospital to the forefront of medical imaging with a potential to further modernize patient care.
“Artemis Curepipe Hospital’s latest MRI offers support structures, music and explanations to ease anxiety for the patient’s comfort. This unique MRI equipment also has a large bore offering greater space that reduces claustrophobic effect. Its advanced technology ensures more precise diagnosis and helps in better treatment. Its user-friendly system enhances patient comfort. The MRI is excellent in trauma assessment and is also valuable in cases such as foetal imaging, where it also offers 3D views in other anatomies and delivers high-detail images.
Furthermore, its user-friendly system enhances patient comfort, contributing to efficient and accurate examinations”, states Anelia Vorster, MRI Clinical Application Specialist at Philips. She emphasizes that regular training and continuous learning are crucial for MRI professionals and safety, patient consent, and ethical considerations are vital in MRI research projects. Anelia Vorster has dispensed a one-week individual training to all Artemis Curepipe Hospital radiographers, and assisted them in their first trials, thus fine-tuning their skills. This training will be repeated in three months.
