Around 1,500 accountants from the African continent and Mauritius will be gathered on the nation island come mid-May. The country will be hosting the third edition of the Africa Congress of Accountants.
It will be “the first time that a conference of such a magnitude and importance is being held outside of the African continent”, stated Clifford To today at the press conference announcing the event. “The only way for us to be able to provide jobs is to look to Africa,” he went on. During the 3-day convention, the wide range of themes discussed will appeal to accountants and non-accountants alike, insisted the Chairman of the Mauritius Institute of Professional Accountants.
For Vickson Ncube, CEO of the Pan African Federation of Accountants, one of the biggest concerns that will be addressed is “poverty reduction”. “Why are resources in Africa enriching others but not Africans?” he asks. The Congress, he adds, will provide a platform where “Africans of all walks of life” can see the “challenges Africa is facing” and try and come up with solutions.
The focus of the Congress will also be on three issues, states Patrick Kabuya from the World Bank. Namely skills development, public finance management systems and adoption of international standards.
The 3rd Africa Congress of Accountants will be held from 12th to 14th May at the Swami Vivekananda International Conference Centre. Seats can be booked on this website. Normal rates for Mauritian delegates are at Rs 23,000 (including gala diner), with a special ‘Early bird’ price of Rs 19,000 until the 15th of April. The conference is MQA-approved.
