Dubai-based aviation major Emirates Airlines and the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) are anticipating a surge in interest in the Indian Ocean Island from Saudi Arabia’s outbound tourism sector.

This follows the resounding success of the recently concluded road shows that were held to promote the destination across key Middle East markets.

The collaborated promotional tour, which ended on 10 February in Dubai, served to promote Mauritius and its diversified tourism product portfolio among the Middle East’s increasing outbound travelers.

According to a country report by Euromonitor International, the world’s leading provider of global business intelligence and market analysis, the number of outbound trips in the Middle East is expected to witness an annual increase of 14%, with outbound spending growth of 6% by 2017.

Further, the Middle East annual disposable income has increased by 8.4% over the last two years based on the demographic and economic indicators stated by Euromonitor International and is expected to continue to grow in the future, boosting both the airline’s and MTPA’s strategic plans to tap into the Middle East outbound tourism potential.

The recent deployment of an Emirates A380 to Mauritius will enable the airlines to cater to the surge in demand and interest in the destination, following the recent promotional initiatives.

“We are already witnessing a regular increase in trips to Mauritius and believe that by strongly focusing on Saudi Arabia, these frequencies will increase further,” Majid Al-Mualla, Emirates’ divisional Senior Vice President, and Commercial Operations Center told Arab News.

The constant rise in the Middle East annual disposable income confirms that the strategic approach is in the right direction, placing Mauritius at the forefront of international destinations that Saudi’s outbound travelers are most likely to prefer.

According to Michael Sik Yuen, Mauritius Tourism Minister, besides being hugely popular with honeymooners, the island destination also provides an enriching and rejuvenating experience for families.

“From sightseeing, family activities, entertainment, shopping and sports and leisure to breathtaking accommodations and enchanting resorts, Mauritius is that gorgeous retreat that everyone wants to escape to for holidays,” he concluded.
