The annual Job Fair of the Business Parks of Mauritius Limited (BPML) will be held from the 6 to 8 March 2014 at the Conference Room, Cyber Tower 1, Ebene.
For this sixth edition, students and job seekers will be able to visit 23 stands, where 13 are in the category of the BPO, seven call centers, two universities and one recruitment agency. Some companies which will be present at the Job fair are: Orange Business Services, Outremer Telecom, Accenture, Alentaris and CCA International.
Like each year, the aim of the Job Fair is to create a platform for school leavers and tertiary students to enable them to meet prospective employees for career and employment choices in ICT.
The organizers expected a strong influx due to rising unemployment in the context of the difficult economic situation. Data from Statistics Mauritius showed that for the third quarter of 2013, there were 47,300 unemployed people in Mauritius numbering 27,600 women (58%) and 19,700 men (42%) whereas the 4,000-odd unemployed youth consist of 54.20% males and 45.80% females.
At the level of the Mauritius Employers Federation, they underline that a pick-up in the employment levels rests on two major pillar namely: an improvement of the world economic situation and budgetary measures, among which prominent are the renewal of the Youth Employment Programme (YEP), the introduction of the Dual Apprenticeship Scheme, and, finally, the Back to Work Scheme for Women.
Just like the private sector, the public sector will also recruit, given that the number of medical and health officers is to be increased from 681 to 757, women police constables from 677 to 773, chief inspectors in the police cadre from 102 to 108, fire fighters from 634 to 710 while an additional 10 environment officers are needed.
Furthermore, other government institutions which need to reinforce their staff include the office of the Director of Public Pursuits, the National Coast Guard, the Ministry of Social Security and the Ministry of Gender Equality.
