The Opening session was graced by a video message from the Hon. Prime Minister of Mauritius.
The UN Annual retreat provides the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) an opportunity to take stock of the previous year’s performance and discuss key priorities for the year ahead. The practice is to focus discussions on national priorities while adopting an approach which facilitates collaboration at the regional level.
The 2021 retreat will take place from 28 to 30 April, online. It will allow the UNCT for the Multi-Country Office (MCO) Mauritius and Seychelles to:
• Discuss COVID-19 recovery strategies that promote resilience, sustainability and inclusion while accelerating progress towards the 2030 Agenda.
• Identify areas of collaboration at the regional level – promoting a regional stance.
• Review approaches for financing sustainable development in the context of high-income SIDS with limited access to official development aid but with active private sectors.
• Reflect on how to promote resilient leadership and maintain a UN team that is fit-for-purpose
The UN in Mauritius and Seychelles supports the countries in many ways including: capacity building, policy dialogue and advocacy, research and data analysis, sharing of best practices, in addition to the projects and programmes implemented. The UN will continue positioning itself as a key partner aligning support to national priorities in the context of regional and global frameworks including the SAMOA pathway, Agenda 2030, and Africa Agenda 2063.
