The Galaxy S4 has officially fallen out of style as Samsung prepped its new beast, the Galaxy S5, at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona yesterday. The S5 is simple yet sophisticated as it marries modern design and advanced technology.

We picked up 10 things you need to know about what could be billed at first sight as the best smartphone ever. Here you go!

1. Fingerprint Sensor

Similar to the iPhone 5S, the Galaxy S5 has a fingerprint sensor on the home button to unlock the phone and access private data.

The best is yet to come! Samsung has collaborated with Paypal to enable mobile payment transactions through paw prints.

2. Heart-Rate Monitor

Saying that the Galaxy S5 is a ‘superphone’ like it has been billed is a huge understatement as the device has some pretty amazing features.

Besides being graced with a heart rate monitor (located at the back), which is a first for a smartphone, the beast has a pedometer, legion of fitness apps, is certified waterproof and dust resistant for meeting the requirements of the IP67.

3. Gear 2 & Gear Fit

Galaxy S5 brags compatibility with Samsung’s second-generation smartwatch, the Gear 2, and its wearable band device, the Gear Fit. Both devices have health-focus features like picking up pulse rate during a workout and send data to the smartphone’s health app.

4. Camera

Latest Samsung smartphone will be shipped with a 16-megapixel camera and a brand new automatic focus. The HDR (High Dynamic Range) has been through an upgrade also. This means that, when taking any picture, the light will not stand as an obstacle. The HDR also pairs with the embedded video, another privilege on which Samsung Galaxy 5 future users will be able to talk big.

5. Screen Resolution & Storage

The Galaxy S5 will run Android 4.4.2 KitKat. It also sports a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with 1080×1920 pixel full-HD resolution that adapts to the light conditions of the environment, a 2.5GHz quad-core processor and a 2GB of RAM.

The device will also be made available in 16GB and 32GB.

6. Battery

The smartphone is embedded with a 2,800 mAh battery and a revised version of the power saving option.

When battery juice shrinks to 10% and below, the Galaxy S5 will activate the ‘ultra-saving mode’, preventing the phone from giving up the ghost and stay alive for 24 hours!

7. Design & Colours

Samsung has not ditched away its signature look completely. However the new package has a perforated back panel. Regarding the colours, other than black and white, the new device will also come up in blue and copper gold.

8. Connectivity

The Galaxy S5 will work on up to eight bands of LTE. Connectivity alternatives comprise 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with MIMO functionality, ANT+, Bluetooth 4.0, USB3.0, NFC, and Infrared remote functionality.

South-Korean manufacturer even insists that the S5 can download a gigabyte of data in 30 seconds.

9. Weight

Samsung’s new flagship smartphone is a shade heavier and thicker than its ancestor – 145 grams for dimensions of 142×72.5×8.1mm.

10. Global Shipment & Price

Samsung Galaxy S5 will hit general availability in 150 countries as from 11 April 2014. The price has not been made public yet but SamMobile bets that the technology marvel will cost a whopping €800 (around Rs33, 000)!
