Mauritius’ premier five-star resort, the Constance Belle Mare Plage, has won the title of the Best Golf Hotel of the Indian Ocean during the World Golf Awards, which took place recently in Portugal.

This prize could not have come at a better time as the 20 years celebrations of golf at the Constance Belle Mare Plage are underway, which will culminate with the holding of the MCB Tour Championship from 8 to 14 December of this year on the Legend Golf Course. International stars such as Colin Montgomerie are expected at this tournament.

Jean Jacques Vallet, the Chief Executive Officer of Constance Hotels & Resorts, is particularly proud of this international recognition.

“This award could not have come at a better time, because we are celebrating the completion of 20 years in the golf industry in Mauritius. Also, this underlines the commitment and the passion of the team at the Constance Belle Mare Plage, which assures an outstanding service to its customers,” he explained.

According to Jean Jacques Vallet, the award pays tribute to two decades of effort to make Mauritius a flagship golf destination in the Indian Ocean and the world.

The World Golf Awards 2014 took place on November 15, 2014 at Conrad Algarve, in Portugal.

This award aims at celebrating spheres of excellence in golf tourism, golf courses and golfing destinations.

The prizes are decided on the basis of votes of professional from the golf tourism industry, and the public.

Golf-based tourism constitutes a vital sector, both in the world market and in Mauritius, and at the Constance Belle Mare Plage alone, more than 30,000 rounds of golf are played every year on its two famous golf grounds, the Links and the Legend.

Moreover, these two, expansive 18-hole championship courses will usher in several tournaments in December, of which the prominent ones are the final round of the European Senior Tour, in which several stars will participate, among whom are Colin Montgomerie, Sam Torrance and Ian Woosnam, three former captains of the RyderCup.

Besides, Mauritius’ very own Vishnu Seeneevassen, a professional golfer, will also participate in the MCB Tour Championship by the side of these living legends of golf, as he has won the Wild Card entry offered by the hotel.

About Constance Belle Mare Plage

Constance Belle Mare Plage is situated along one of the most beautiful beaches of the island. It offers a wide range of opportunities and is the ideal site for golfers with its two championship golf courses of 18 holes each.

Bordering a pristine, two-kilometre long white sand beach, the hotel environs comprise tropical gardens of almost 15 hectares. The two championship golf courses of 18 holes increase this space to almost 140 hectares.

The beach is protected by a coral reef, which makes it an ideal place for swimming, water sports and snorkelling.
