As the incoming curator of the Port Louis Hub, I have had the immense opportunity to attend the Annual Curators Meeting which was held in Geneva from the 21st to the 25th August. This event brought together 325 curators, 9 regions, all under one Community Banner. Under the theme of ‘Going Live’, one of the major objectives of this meeting was to facilitate the gathering and sharing of knowledge and best practices within the different hubs across the world. The concept of ‘share learning’ between us curators was predominant throughout the week. The meeting was also a means to further bonding & team spirit within the community we belonged to.

The best way to summarise my trip is through these notable quotes from these eminent figures from the World Economic Forum and the Global Shapers Community. I hope it allows each and every one of you to get your own take on it and find your inspiration from these words. So here it goes:

  •  “Allow yourself to be vulnerable to learn from others” ~ David Aikman, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum
  •  “If it is worth doing, it is worth doing well! Help create inspiration!”~ Adeyemi Babington-Ashaye, Director of the Global Shapers Community
  •  “Stay true to your values and certainly stick to it”~ Adeyemi Babington-Ashaye, Director of the Global Shapers Community
  • “ Incorporate the concept of 3 B’s in your lives: Binding, Bonding and Building” ~ Prof. K. Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum
  • “A leader needs to have three things: Brains, Soul and Heart”~ Prof. K. Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum
  • “What is your vision? It is when you put your values into action” ~ Prof. K. Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum
  • “Passion is not just about showing your personality, you have to be passionate about the topic.”~ Prof. K. Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum
  • “If you are passionate enough, the hurdles won’t matter”` Prof. K. Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum
  • “In front of the critics, know your inner compass, believe in your convictions”~ Prof. K. Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum
  • “Believe you have it. Passion is something that you either have it or do not. But keep believing that you have it.”~ Prof. K. Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum
  • “Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people, because that’s the group of people that is what is going change the world.” ~ Adeyemi Babington-Ashaye, Director of the Global Shapers Community

So this is my take on the Annual Curators’ Meeting 2014. But what can I hope it will bring to the Mauritian society? This is what I hope:

I hope to inspire the younger generation to see that even by their smallest of actions, they can bring in a change to society. We are all accountable and responsible for our own society and its future. If you find an issue in your community, find a solution to it and implement the solution. It is going to be tough, don’t get me wrong- but will it not be worthwhile? The young generation across the world is bursting with ideas and projects. They are coming up with innovative solutions to their societal problems and so should we!

And as such my message after this incredible trip is a call-out to the youth: find your inspiration, find your voice, don’t be shy to bring it to the table and become responsible for the society that you want to live in.
