Mauritius’ premier HR agency, the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC), recently roped in the HR country head of Accenture Services, Mauritius, to dwell on the competitive advantages and challenges of digitizing HR services.

The 6th edition of its ‘Let’s Talk HR’ series on the theme ‘HR Information Systems: promoting a self-service culture’ was held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at NG Tower, Ebène.

The main objective of the event was to discuss how to successfully digitize HR processes such as data planning and handling, payroll inputs, administration of personnel files, updating employee records, managing absences and holiday requests and online recruiting.

According to the HRDC, the HR function has undergone considerable change in recent years, especially with increased competitiveness, economic globalization and advances in information and communication technologies.

This change has been spurred by the current tough economic climate where HR departments are facing increasing pressure to accomplish more with less, which essentially means becoming more efficient when handling employee records which contain confidential information and require secure storage and careful handling.

Overall, an effective use of HR information systems can significantly improve the competitiveness and profitability of a company.

‘Let’s Talk HR’ is a series of talks organised by the HRDC in a bid to bring together HR professionals on the same platform to network, share experiences and reflect on practices pertaining to human resource development.
