Mauritius is cementing its position as a regional hub for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by hosting the sixth edition of the ICT Expo, a regional event which aims at creating more awareness on emerging technologies.

The event, to be held this week-end, on 19 and 20 April, 2014 at the Bel Air Social Welfare Centre, will also serve the objective of bringing ICT closer to citizens of the island economy.

The aim of this ICT Expo, which offers free admission, is to encourage the population to go for higher level industry-based certifications as well as to sensitize Mauritians on career opportunities in the ICT sector.

Besides, the event will also serve as a platform to advise the local population of the potential applications of ICT and guide them on choice of technology for effective business and individual solutions.

The Expo, which will be held from noon to 7 p.m. on April 19, 2014 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 20, 2014 is expected to play host to 5,000 visitors.

The Expo comprises multiple events such as ICT Exhibition, ICT Job Fair and ICT Awareness.

Among the exhibitors who are expected to participate in the ICT Expo are Orange, Central Business Equipment, VJ Computers, HM Rawat, RRJ Learning Centre, Mauritius Post Ltd, Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation and National Computer Board (NCB).

The ICT Expo, which started at the initiative of the NCB in 2011, has the twin objectives of promoting ICT literacy and bringing government services closer to the people by providing accessible and integrated online public services.

A success from the very start, five ICT Expos have been organized by the NCB so far which have attracted more than 27,500 visitors over the years.
