With the recent launch of the Employ-Ability Program, supported by the European Union through the Decentralised Cooperation Program (DCP), the island economy is showing a much-needed focus on providing employment opportunities to the disabled.
The program was announced by Craft-Aid Mauritius and Global Rainbow Foundation during a press conference on March 6, 2014.
The primary aim of the program is to give a chance to people with disabilities to integrate into the world of work as well as to equip them with the capabilities to meet their needs.
Launched by Craft Aid Services Ltd in partnership with the Global Rainbow Foundation (GRF) with support from the EU, this project aims at training and at providing jobs in 2014 to 125 people who are in disabled and impoverished.
The project requires an investment of Rs 2.84 million and will be implemented from April onwards for an initial period of 14 months.
The Employ-Ability Program was officially launched by Gabriel Kamudu, MD of Craft Aid Ltd, and Armoogum Parsuramen, GOSK, founder president of Global Rainbow Foundation along with K Valaydon and Candice Bonnefin, representing the DCP-EU.
Earlier this year, the official grant ceremony was held in the presence of Craft Aid MD Gabriel Kamudu, Finance Minister Xavier Luc Duval and Guy Sazung, a delegate of the EU, on January 16, 2014.
The Global Rainbow Foundation will partner with Craft Aid Services to provide technical expertise and will play a key role in the implementation of the program.
Craft Aid Ltd and Global Rainbow Foundation are the two strategic and committed pioneers who are responsible for the inception of the project and its subsequent implementation.
Craft Aid Ltd is a pioneering organization working in the field of training and integration of the disabled for the last 32 years.
The Global Rainbow Foundation is a non-governmental organization (NGO) working in the field of the disability which came into the limelight last December for an audacious project, Jaipur Foot Mauritius, endowing free leg prostheses to 250 amputees in its first phase.
Registration for person with disabilities who are willing to work has already started and can be completed on the website of the Global Rainbow Foundation. The deadline for the submission of registration forms is March 15, 2014.
