A week long training, which started on May 2, 2014 and is centred on the Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP), is being attended by 40 unemployed women and youth hailing from the Camp-Fouquereaux region.
The training has the objective of helping these individuals to acquire the knowledge and necessary skills which will facilitate them in launching their own enterprises.
The event is taking place at the office of the Saideen Municipal Complex of Camp-Fouquereaux and has been organized by the National Institute of Cooperative Entrepreneurship (NICE) in association with the Small and Medium Entrepreneurship Development Authority (SMEDA) and the National Women Entrepreneurship Council (NWEC) of Mauritius.
The themes of the Entrepreneurship Development Programme training are as follows: the concept of cooperative entrepreneurship in the fields of Indian culinary skills, henna application, Brazilian embroidery, interior decoration, glass painting, beauty care and hairstyle; company financing; financial institutions for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME); company management; marketing, and customer care.
Mauritius counts a hundred co-operative societies including those by women who are engaged in diversified activities such as handicrafts, interior decoration, savings and credit, jewellery, apiculture (beekeeping), catering services, textile, agriculture and food.
Moreover, there are many training sessions taking place to provide unemployed women and youth as well as small entrepreneurs the skills and knowledge required for start-ups.
For instance, SMEDA, together with NWEC and NICE, organised a two-month inter-agency collaborative training programme in Coromandel from March 3, 2014. Around 15 entrepreneurs attended the training which sought to promote sustainable growth of SMEs and to achieve new strategic objectives in the global economy.
