A training campaign organized by Mauritius realty major Azuri in collaboration with the MITD (Mauritius Institute of Training and Development) culminated in an awards ceremony on Wednesday to give recognition to the efforts of the trained candidates.

The award ceremony was organised in the presence of Mauritius Environment Minister, Deva Virahsawmy, as well as the Private Parliamentary Secretaries (PPS) of the region, Balkissoon Hookoom and Pratibha Bhola, in the youth centre of Rivière-du-Rempart, to reward the 53 trained candidates.

The aim of the training was to help Mauritians, aged between 18 and 55 years, to find a secure job. Over six months, the program participants showed diligence and seriousness towards completing the trainings sponsored by Azuri across diverse fields, such as housekeeping, cooking, garden maintenance, domestic electrical installation and plumbing.

Hence, these people, irrespective of work experience, were credited for their efforts with a national level certification.

Besides, this initiative was a big success as some of the participants were recruited within Azuri itself.

This training was mandated by constant changes in the Mauritian corporate landscape in which the demand for qualified professionals in certain sectors is increasing, spurring the need for adequate training and development.

“At Azuri, we bet not only on the skills and the development of our collaborators, but also the members of our company, and it is one of the reasons why we sponsored this training with MITD’s collaboration,” said Hugues Lagesse, Senior Development Executive at property development major BlueLife which manages Azuri.

He added that, as this initiative was successful, Azuri wishes to continue with new campaigns along the same lines and expressed the hope that that these 53 candidates would become ambassadors for future participants.

This training project sits bright in the list of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities undertaken by Azuri.

Marianne Perdrau, who is in charge of the CSR department at BlueLife Ltd, took the initiative to reimburse transport and provide new uniforms to each participants.

Most of the participants, hailing from Roches-Noires, Panchvati, Pointe-des-Lascars, Poste-Lafayette and Rivière-du-Rempart, found the training very enriching.

“I would like to profess my sincere gratitude to Azuri for allowing us to undertake these training courses in diverse fields. This training was very enriching, thanks to theoretical and practical sessions, and I am convinced thatthis certificate will form the building block for a promising career,” said Arjoon bBhooneshwarsing, a participant in cooking courses.

Going forward, residents of the North-East of the island will have the opportunity to participate in the next training campaign, slated for September 2014.
