Mauritius’ accounting regulator, the Mauritius Institute of Professional Accountants (MIPA), together with the Mauritian Branch of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), is organizing a high-level one-day seminar for senior finance executives and managers.

The annual seminar, to be held on Friday August 22, 2014 at the Maritim Hotel in Balaclava, will elaborate on the theme of ‘Integrated Thinking: Create value & ensure sustainable business.’

Increasingly, businesses are expected to report not just on profit but on their impact on the wider economy, society and the environment. In this context, integrated reporting comes handy as it gives a ‘dashboard’ view of an organisation’s activities and performance in this broader information flow.

The integrated reporting exercise is most visibly expected to culminate in a periodic ‘integrated report’ which enables more effective decision making at board level, improves the information available to investors as well as encourages more integrated thinking and business practices.

The main speaker at the event will be Muneer Hassan, Senior Executive, Standards, at the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), who will focus on the challenges of Integrated Reporting.

“Integrated reporting has been developed to give stakeholders a more holistic picture of an organisation’s performance and its ability to create value in the short, medium and long term. This enables providers of financial capital and other stakeholders to make more informed assessments about organizations,” Muneer Hassan said.

He added that integrated reporting is the future of corporate reporting and is taking off globally and if accountants want to remain relevant in society they must embrace integrated reporting.

Guest speakers at the annual seminar will be: Jacques d’Unienville, CEO at Omnicane; Eddy Jolicoeur, Group Head of Human Resources at Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB); Raju Jaddoo, Secretary General at the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI); Preetee Jhamna Ramdin, Partner at Ernst & Young (EY); Afsar Ebrahim, Deputy Group Managing Partner at BDO; and Rishi Sookdawoor, President and CEO at BAI.
