Mauritius continues to woo Indian travellers successfully with its pristine beaches, inviting sun and world-class resorts, and has reaped rich dividends for its efforts by winning the Best All-Season International Destination for Today’s Traveller Award 2014 under the International Tourism category.

The award ceremony will be held at a 5-star hotel in Delhi, on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, where the Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA), Karl Mootoosamy, will receive the prestigious trophy from the chief guest for the occasion, Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of Tourism & Culture for India.

The island destination has become famous in the Indian tourism market for lavish extravaganzas – such as weddings, engagements and other ceremonies – that are organized on the island.

In 2013, tourism arrivals from India registered a growth rate of 3.7% to hit 57,255 tourists, made up of mostly honeymooners and holidaymakers, compared to the 55,197 footfalls in 2012.

For this year, more than 60,000 Indian tourists are expected to visit the island, and the island economy seems on track to achieve its target, as, in the first seven months of the year, Mauritius has welcomed 37,686 tourists from India.

Mauritius has become a well-known destination in India, and to boost the demand for the high-end travel, focus is placed on the luxurious and high-end hospitality products and services in Mauritius.

The island destination has also build an enviable reputation in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) segment, and is trying to further penetrate the business events market in India.

Furthermore, Mauritius also participates actively with travel trade partners in several wedding fairs and road shows.

Coming to the awards, the 8th Today’s Traveller Awards recognizes and honors outstanding performers in the corporate, hospitality, travel and entertainment industries.

This year the magazine will be celebrating its 17th Anniversary and to mark this milestone, the cover of the 2014 edition of the Coffee Table Book – Today’s Traveller ‘WINNERS’ MATRIX’, will be released at the same event.

Today’s Traveller is a premier business and leisure travel magazine and the Today’s Traveller Awards were instituted in 2007 as an annual affair to recognise the outstanding efforts of the companies in the travel, tourism, hospitality and aviation industry.

Each year, the awards felicitate certain corporate companies for their achievements as well. The awards are presented at a star-studded gala awards’ ceremony and a distinguished guest list at a 5-star hotel in New Delhi with the Indian Tourism Minister giving out the prestigious awards.
