With the launch of Emirates operations in Kiev in January 2014, Mauritius is now connected by daily flights to Ukraine via Dubai.

For the Mauritian tourism sector, this is a golden opportunity to exploit the emerging market of Ukraine, with a population of 45 million.

Emirates has recently unveiled new expansion plans for Eastern Europe with the launch of daily flights to the Kyiv Boryspil International Airport in the capital city of Kiev from January 16.

With a daily service provided by an Airbus A340-500, the new flight will provide international connections through Dubai to the Eastern European country.

According to Oomar Ramtoola, Emirates Manager for Mauritius and the islands of the Indian Ocean, Dubai’s premier carrier has contributed to the development of new tourism markets for Mauritius.

“The launch of the service to Ukraine will certainly be well received by all stakeholders in the local tourism industry. It is a high-end market and is therefore of particular interest to Mauritius.”

Dr Karl Mootoosamy, Director, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA), welcomed the news of the Emirates flight to Kiev.

“This is a great opportunity for Mauritius and is in line with our strategy to promote Ukraine. With Dubai being a major aviation hub, we can certainly expect an increase in tourist arrivals from Ukraine,” he stated.
